Discover the various awards offered by Thanet Lifeguard Club that enhance the skills of our volunteers and members. Each award focuses on vital lifesaving techniques to promote safety in our community.

RLSS Water Smart Award

This Award sets out a national standard for water safety and has been designed as a          standalone award.

The Water Smart Award has been developed in line with the National Curriculum Swimming outcomes and supports the     development of essential skills, safety awareness, and           competence around water

The award focuses on five main areas Water Safety Awareness, getting in and Out of the water safely, Safely Staying Afloat, safely moving in the water, and Performing Basic Rescues Safely.
 

RLSS Rookie Lifeguard Awards

This programme is aimed at younger members aged 7 to 12 (Key Stage 2)

The Rookie Lifeguard programme fulfils all the water safety elements of the National Curriculum and Swim England's Learn to Swim Programme.

The course can run parallel to your child’s current swimming lessons and will enhance the skills they learn in the pool.

The scheme begins with Stage 1 of the Bronze Award and progresses to Stage 3 of the Gold Award.

RLSS National Lifesaving Academy

The National Lifesaving Academy awards are aimed at members aged 12 and over                     (Key Stages 3,4 and 5)

There are a collection of progressive awards structured into three levels Bronze Lifesaving Certificate, Bronze Star, and Bronze Medallion.

The awards teach personal survival, first aid, CPR, rescue, and fitness skills, that aim to teach our members how to stay safe around water and how to safely assist others who may have gotten into difficulty in both aquatic and non-aquatic situations.

On achieving the various awards, the members receive Recognition of Prior Learning hours towards the RLSS UK vocational lifeguard qualifications.

RLSS Life Support & Life Support 3

The Life Support Award covers the basics of how to perform CPR, including the diagnosis and treatment for choking, bleeding, and shock on an adult casualty.

The Life Support 3 award covers the basics of how to perform CPR, including the diagnosis and treatment for choking, bleeding, and shock on an infant, child, and adult casualty.

RLSS National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification
(NVBLQ)

The National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification (NVBLQ) is the core qualification for anyone seeking employment on UK Beaches.


The NVBLQ ensures that the qualified lifeguard has the knowledge and skills required to operate effectively across a range of beach environments.


NVBLQ was developed with support from the National Water Safety Forum Beach Advisory Group and the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) and is recognised by the RNLI as one of the main qualifications for beach lifeguarding.

National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches
(NRASTC)

The National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC) is a supervision and rescue award for swimming teachers, coaches and/or instructors working during programmed activities, such as swimming lessons.

It is suitable for teachers working in a wide range of swimming pools where the water is deeper than the teachers’ standing depth and meets the Individual sites risk assessment.

National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches LIGHT
(NRASTC LIGHT)

The National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches LIGHT (NRASTC LIGHT) is a supervision and rescue award for swimming teachers, coaches and/or instructors working during programmed activities, such as swimming lessons when Lifeguard or First Aid backup is available to respond quickly in the event of an emergency.

It is suitable for teachers working in a wide range of swimming pools, including pools where the water is deeper than the teacher’s standing depth. 

Note: This award is only suitable when the facility has staff qualified as Lifeguards or First Aiders that are available to respond quickly to a swimming teacher or coach in the event of an emergency.

Water Rescue Equipment Training

The Water Rescue Equipment Training has been developed to ensure as many people as possible are confident and competent in the use of water rescue equipment found around waterways.
